Salem, May 2. On the 19th of April was killed, among other,
by the British troops, at Manotomy, as he was courageously
defending his country's rights, the good, the pious , and
friend Mr. Daniel Townsend, of Lynn-End. He was a constant
and ready friend to the poor and afflicted; a good adviser
in case of difficulty, and an able, mild and sincere
reprover of those who were out of the way. . . [3 lines]
Life, valiant Townsend, in the peaceful shades.--We trust
Immortal splendours mingle with thy dust.
What! tho' thy body struggled in its gore,
So did thy saviour's body long before!
